Infra-Auditions 2025!
DEADLINE: August 31st, 2025 11:59 PM
InfraSound is excited to announce open auditions for our “InfraCore” for the 2024-2025 Season. Please read carefully the information below and submit an audition application through this form.
What is InfraSound?
InfraSound is a modular contemporary chamber music ensemble based in Lenapehoking/NYC. We perform 3-4 large-scale productions a year with the hope of expanding in the future. Currently coming into our 6th season, our productions range from multidisciplinary collaborations (see Dancing to the Music of You), world premieres of chamber music, opera, new music theater (see our interview about Susan Botti’s premiere opera Iconic here, and other premiere performances here, here, and here), and our annual pops concert (see InfraPop). For more information visit our website www.infrasoundmusic.org or follow us on Instagram @infrasoundmusic
We are currently seeking:
Musicians (vocalists and instrumentalists) to fill out our “InfraCore”; a select group of around 10 musicians that represent InfraSound’s performing roster.
Potential collaborators to add to our “InfraMantle”; a roster of additional collaborating artists that are hired as-needed (i.e. for larger ensemble works, or when InfraCore members aren’t available).
What is the InfraCore?
To date, InfraSound has hired over 70 individual collaborating artists. While we hope to continue to draw from this pool of collaborators, InfraSound is looking to solidify a core ensemble of 10 musicians that will be prioritized in our programming, scheduling, and touring. These members will be an active and integral part of InfraSound and are invited to participate in the inner workings of our non-profit (including providing feedback to the administrative team, suggesting repertoire, connecting us to composers and venues, and with potential for greater leadership positions in the future). While every core member may not be contracted for every production, effort will be made to include everyone in the core ensemble in the future season planning process.
InfraSound is a professional 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit organization. For the 2024-2025 Season our minimum payment per project was $350, but often averaged around $500-750. Please note that this minimum can vary depending on production, grant stipulations, and involvement. The depth of projects can vary greatly and often our fees increase based on the amount of repertoire, number of rehearsals/performances, and the amount of grant funding/fundraising we receive each year. While we are still a growing organization, we do our very best to put musicians first and pay as much as we are financially able to. This is not a full-time position, but contract based depending on our programming and funding. It is understood that InfraCore members will have other freelance opportunities to round out their income, or a part-time/full-time job. We are understanding of all working arrangements and are flexible when scheduling rehearsals and performances, but do expect InfraCore members to prioritize our schedule once it is set.
What we are looking for:
InfraSound is dedicated to transforming the landscape of experimental music in NYC and beyond. We seek creative collaborators that are leaders in the field of new music, want to have an active part in the creation/rehearsal process, have unique ideas and viewpoints, represent the diversity of performing musicians in NYC, and are open to learning, growing, and experimenting. We have a few requirements to be considered for an InfraCore position.
Must be NYC-based: we unfortunately cannot hire musicians who do not live in the Greater-NYC area.
Must be able to work in the US
Must be at least 21 years old
Must NOT be a current student enrolled in a degree-seeking program (except doctoral candidates that are ABD)
Have at least two years of professional performing experience outside of a degree-seeking program
InfraSound does not discriminate based on race, gender identity, gender expression, sexuality, disability, age, class, or any other factors. We are also dedicated to representing a greater diversity in our ensemble and actively seek submissions from BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and disabled musicians.

Audition Process Transparency:
Although not guaranteed, performers in Group 2 and Group 3 will have priority for positions in the InfraCore. Once audition materials are received by the deadline of August 31st at 11:59 PM, current members of InfraSound (including Artistic Director Yoshi Weinberg and Executive Director Stefanie Proulx) will review materials and make decisions by mid-September. Although we wish we could accept every applicant into the InfraCore, some applicants will be added instead to our expanded collaborator roster (the InfraMantle), from which IS draws for larger-scale projects or if an InfraCore member is unavailable. Unfortunately not all applicants will be added to the InfraCore or InfraMantle roster, as some applicants may not be the right fit for our organization. If you would like feedback once decisions are made, please contact the Artistic Director Yoshi Weinberg (they/them) at yoshi@infrasoundmusic.org.
For any questions regarding the application process please contact InfraSound’s Executive Director Stefanie Proulx (she/her) at stefanie@infrasoundmusic.org.
The InfraSound team sincerely appreciates your time and dedication to the future of experimental classical music. We look forward to hearing from you and reading your applications and will be in touch about decisions in late September.
